Co-op Intern – Process Engineer

$23.00 per hour

The Sonoco internship program is an opportunity to provide additional quality standard training to Process Engineers of all levels and designed to “test the waters” of working in the paper making industry. You will spend your summer working in the Paper Division on impactful projects, establishing an understanding of Sonoco's culture and processes, as well as developing a business mindset. All internships last approximately 12 weeks.  Your start/end date can vary based on your final exam schedule and relocation needs.

You will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. You will follow the Sonoco Performance System (SPS) and assist in implementing projects and processes to address production, quality, safety, and maintenance requirements of the business.

Position Responsibilities:

Assist in the design, development and implementation of new processes and equipment
Propose process improvements and cost reduction projects
Provide project support for SPS Pillars
Lead monitor and update speed, waste, minor stops, changeover losses for equipment
Follow all Sonoco safety expectations
Create and modify JSA’s SOP’s and LOTO procedures
Participate on plant safety teams and activities
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Demonstrate commitment to quality

To become an intern with Sonoco, there are a few key things you’ll need to have/had:

Currently enrolled in a University degree program in Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering
Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
Ability to work independently once an assignment has been communicated
Organize workload to coordinate and execute an effective completion plan
Communicate effectively with all levels within the manufacturing community
Possess strong critical thinking, problem solving, analyzing, and examining skills to find the best solutions to various situations
Technical aptitude
Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office
