Reporting to the Leader, Fraud Analytics & Countermeasures, the Data Science Intern will be responsible for providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of new and existing fraud trends. They will work under general guidance of Data Specialists to identify, design, develop and support data solution for business. The Data Scientist will also have the opportunity to work with the fraud teams to provide deliverables including research insights, data assets, and visualizations to help the end-user develop a better understanding of the topic.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of fraud trends.
- Identifying, designing, developing, and supporting data solutions for business needs.
- Manipulating and analyzing large datasets using SQL and Python, interfacing with databases such as Redshift and Oracle – you will be testing and building machine learning (ML) models on cloud platforms.
- Collaborating with fraud teams to deliver research insights, data assets, and visualizations, enhancing the end-user's understanding of fraud-related topics.
- Identifying and implementing improvements for existing data products to improve accuracy, usability, and performance.
- Researching and developing new data science tools to improve the countermeasure process, including testing and validation.
- Conducting ad-hoc data analysis, creating reports, and responding to data inquiries with actionable insights using various reporting and data visualization tools.
- Developing and testing fraud detection rules and conducting fraud trend & alert analysis
- Providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of fraud trends.
You bring:
- You are currently enrolled in a university or college program in a relevant discipline, like computer science, cybersecurity, risk management or IT
- Experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and feature development within relevant industries
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and analysis
- Experience with databases such as Redshift and Oracle
- Familiarity with building and testing machine learning models on cloud platforms
- Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with fraud teams and other stakeholders
- You have excellent communication skills to convey complex data insights and visualizations clearly
- Have strong attention to detail to improve analysis and data accuracy
- Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:
- Understanding of the payments/banking industry
- Familiarity with risk or fraud detection
