Job Summary
The Sports Management Internship will consist of both the operations and business aspect of the sports industry. However, within the Affiliate Leagues/Adult Tournaments Internship, the role will be more focused on the everyday business portion that Canlan Sports handles. The Sports Management Intern for Affiliate Leagues/Adult Tournaments will assist the Manager of Affiliate Leagues & Tournament Administration with almost every aspect of the managerial role, including, making first contact with existing leagues, doing market research to try and identify new leagues, collect all necessary league info from league/team managers (roster, proof of insurance, payment, etc.), build out seasons/schedules within League Stat, Salesforce, and/or Sport Ninga and other day-to-day tasks that may arise fluently like incoming injury claims. This also extends to the tournament side of the role which includes updating the ASHL website, sending initial communications, handling registrations, organizing divisions, building schedules, and ultimately taking payment.
Job Responsibilities
- May be asked to help on-site with a local tournament if team members are needed.
- Potential stipend if asked to work.
- Connect with existing leagues and begin working them through the insurance process.
- Explain Affiliate Program Insurance Package to newer leagues.
- Collect roster information for each league.
- Build out online seasons for any league that chooses online registration.
- Draft invoices for each league based of roster counts.
- Collect and process payments from each league within Canlan system.
- Work closely with injured players and walk them through claim process with Hockey Canada
- Day-to-day communication with leagues to provide guidance when asked.
- Market research as needed.
- Send out tournament communication to potential registrants.
- Build out tournament online within the appropriate host facility in Salesforce and/or Sport Ninja
- Organize registrations into divisions based on overall team skill level.
- Build tournament schedule allowing for seamless ice flow.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and/or enrolled in your second, third or fourth year at an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge about youth sports and particularly the hockey community (Hockey Canada & USA Hockey)
- Superior oral and written communications skills
- Effective organizational skills for managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to be adaptable.
- Ability to work in both team and individual environments.
- Ability to do effective research.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite an asset
- Knowledge of Salesforce or League State is a bonus.
- Confidence in yourself is the most important!
