New Grad Program

Our New Graduate program reflects our long-term commitment to invest time and resources to build the best and brightest team. The two-year program offers a permanent position from Day 1, a combination of training and coaching, and the ability to rotate through several roles allowing New Grads to gain experience working on different projects and in different environments.

Transmission and Stations Engineering
Transmission and Stations Engineering provides multi-disciplinary engineering and drafting services to support Hydro One’s capital work program. Transmission and Stations Engineering is split across four engineering disciplines – Stations, Protection & Control, Telecom, Transmission Lines and supported by the Engineering Enablement Team. Our team provides a full range of engineering services including feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, estimating, failure analysis, Protection, Control & Metering design, CADD Support, technical authority roles and support to our Planning, Operating and Field Organizations.
We are looking for an Electrical Engineering New Graduate (1) in our Telecom Engineering Team (Teleprotection team). The Teleprotection team responsible for engineering and design of teleprotection schemes of electric power system and its components such as: lines, transformer stations, Distributed Generation, etc.
In this role you will learn

Teleprotection communication channel design
-
Interface with other Telecom and Hydro One engineering departments such as: Telecom Cable and Networks, Protection and Control, Stations and Lines engineering

Develop skills relating to prioritization based on risk
-
Develop ability to assess Solution Design/Options
Duties may include:
-
Teleprotection design work for telecom projects in more than one of the following teleprotection technologies: digital/analog muxs, power line carrier (PLC), and wireless systems.

As part of the teleprotection design work, understand and carry out the utilization of transmission facilities in the provision of power system telecom services.

Prepare final designs, based on receipt of technical information, along with sketches and instructions and forward to senior design engineers for general review and passing on to drawing production (drafting) section for the preparation of detailed design drawings.

As part of the telecom design work, understand and carry out the utilization of telecom transmission facilities in the provision of power system telecom services, including that related to the protection, control monitoring and operation of the power system.

Experience in one or more of the following technologies: LAN/WAN networking, SONET/digital/analog muxs, fiber optic cabling, outside plant, microwave, leased Telco services, cable protection, tele-protection, wireless systems, and network management systems.

Knowledge of basic power transmission and distribution infrastructure

Must be eligible for future licensing by the PEO as a Professional Engineer (within required work experience time frame).

Courses in Electrical Engineering Design, Circuits Communications are considered an asset

Previous co-op experience in a relevant field and industry is considered an asset
