About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Responsibilities:
Community Relations:
- Proactively foster, develop, and maintain appropriate and effective relationships with local and regional businesses, institutions, community groups, the media and other external organizations and stakeholders.
- Support and/or organize events and prepare presentation and/or speaking notes for Senior Management public appearance in different communities.
- Develop and manage community and government contact database, assessing information and action on it where necessary.
- Aid as a point of contact for community enquiries and coordinate engagement activities ensuring a two-way dialogue between the Corporation and its external partners
- Represent and ensure visibility of Alamos Gold Inc. Island Gold Mine in public forums and events across the country including events organized by industry organizations.
- Participate in Island Gold Mine’s social media strategy. Develops social media best practice strategies to de-escalate issues.
- Demonstrate Island Gold Mine’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, transparency, and accountability.
- Identify and create opportunities to raise Alamos Gold inc. Island Gold Mine profile with target audiences across Canada.
Indigenous Relations:
- Be involved in ensuring that relationships with key Indigenous communities are sustainable, and that the relationships foster value creating economic opportunities for Island Gold and its partners
- Provide opportunities for continuous cultural learning and actively promote Indigenous peoples culture throughout the site
- Engagement of local First Nation Communities
- Support partnerships with Aboriginal activities
- Collaborate with all departments of the operation in ensuring in ongoing dialogue in understanding the importance of our Indigenous relations and engagement.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Aspiring degree in Social Sciences, Arts & Business; (Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Indigenous Engagement, etc.)
- Enrolled in a relevant Post Secondary Co-op program with availability for an 8-12 month Co-op starting in January 2025.
- Experience Writing /Composing, Correspondence /Reports (Required)
- Must be a confident, self-starter with excellent editing, writing and research skills.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and meeting deadlines without sacrificing an eye for detail.
- Must have a commitment to maintain high standards of quality
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to work as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and basic photo and video editing software
- Must maintain confidentiality and be respectful of sensitive situations
Working Conditions:
- This position is on a defined 4 days on 3 days off rotation. Fly-in Fly-out is available (FIFO) from Toronto, Sudbury and Rouyn, Qc.
- Travel will be required for this position.
