The Anishnawbe Business Professional Association (ABPA) is a non-profit, member-based organization with an office in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The ABPA primarily serves the First Nation business community and develops and expresses positions on business issues and other public issues relevant to First Nation business, on behalf of its members. We are looking for a membership engagement intern to maintain and develop our growing membership base, facilitate events and projects, and provide support to our Board of Directors as we undertake a strategic plan for the organization’s future. This role will involve communicating with the board, members, and many communities and organizations in northwestern Ontario. Strong interpersonal skills and experience with diverse groups will be an asset, as well as strong written and verbal communication, research, and project planning. Education or experience in business administration, non-profit sector, program facilitation or membership coordination preferred, but we will train the right candidate.
Eligibility: This is a NOHFC funded opportunity. The applicant must be 18 years of age or older, an Indigenous resident of Northwestern Ontario (including First Nation, Metis, or Inuit) and either newly entering the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or is unemployed or underemployed and is entering a new field, reside in Northern Ontario, and legally entitled to work in Canada. The applicant must not have previously participated in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) People and Talent Program.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Assist the Board to identify and prioritize communication and engagement needs,
● Word processing, document formatting and presentation preparation,
● Preparing copy and other media content for projects, campaigns, and events,
● Maintain ongoing member communication and outreach including new member processing, renewals, & monthly newsletter,
● Conduct research and provide support with research, data input, document preparation and data management,
● Facilitate social media content, rollout, and other communication campaigns,
● Assist with workshops, information fairs, and events, and
● Other reasonable duties as they may arise.

Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $17.00-$18.00 per hour
