Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:
1. Practice as a pharmacy (pharmacist) intern in Saskatchewan according to the standards, policies, and requirements set by the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Processionals (SCPP) and under supervision of a licensed pharmacist
2. Full engagement in professional services and expanded scope-of-practice with appropriate supervision and based on individual knowledge level
3. With appropriate oversight and supervision, provide evidence-based drug information and advice concerning the proper and safe use of prescription medications, as well as over the counter or self-medication products
4. To be familiar with all merchandise carried in the department, with merchandise normally carried in pharmacies, as well as to be aware of new products pertaining to the pharmaceutical and retail pharmacy industry
5. Understand and assist with third party insurance, provincial drug coverage, federal drug coverage, and other billing issues that arise
6. Remain up to date on government regulations and requirements with respect to the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals (SCPP), the Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan (PAS), and the Saskatchewan Prescription Drug Plan (SPDP)
7. Fully comply with the Quality Improvement Program (COMPASS) and Pharmacy Privacy Policy
8. Adhere to all contracts, policies, procedures, and practices implemented by the Saskatoon Co-op
9. Responsible for assessing and placing claims for damaged, faulty, or short-shipped drug merchandise, according to Co-operative policies and procedures
10. To ensure the safekeeping of all cash handled and the safekeeping of the dispensary drugs
11. Assist in keeping an accurate pharmacy inventory, including regular narcotic counts and reconciliation in accordance with regulation
12. Act in a professional manner at all times, and ensure all professional decisions made are ethical
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in an accredited four-year Pharmacy Program at a Canadian University, working towards either a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSP) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
- Must be register as a Pharmacy Intern with the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals
- Must be strongly service oriented, and be capable of assisting customers in a courteous and efficient manner
- Candidates must be available on Evenings and Weekends
