Interested in joining a fast-paced hospitality team? Then we may be the fit you're looking for! Known as a "green" facility, the Convention Centre endeavours to lead the hospitality industry in a green revolution by providing Sustainable Meeting Solutions. We are currently recruiting for a Sustainability Intern to join our team. Reporting to the Sustainability Officer, the intern will undertake administrative responsibilities and provide significant support in various projects. The ideal candidate is an outgoing and enthusiastic individual with a passion for the field of Environmental Sciences and Energy Management.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in monitoring waste reduction program and conduct internal waste audits to establish potential contamination of waste streams and recommend improvements
- Help plan corporate social responsibility events (e.g. Food Drives, Habitat for Humanity builds)
- Support exhibitor engagement for recycling and donation programs
- Help develop effective communications to drive employee engagement
- Assist with preparing submission documents for various awards and certifications
- Research new products and pilot projects to advance sustainability program including: new LED lighting, energy saving procedures and cleaning protocol, recycling streams
- Maintain database by inputting monthly data and preparing reports for recycling, energy conservation and carbon foot printing programs
- General office duties (taking minutes, photocopying, filing, faxing and scanning of documents)
- Create a training manual for upcoming interns
- Perform additional assignments or projects as assigned
- Reception relief as required
Skills & Qualifications:
- Currently working towards a diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Sustainable Business Management, or Energy Management
- Experience in a similar position is an asset
- Professional appearance with excellent Customer Service skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Must be detail oriented
- Ability to learn quickly and handle confidential information
- Strong ability to multi-task and use problem-solving skills
- Takes initiative
- Able to work alone and in a team environment
